Environmental Improvements cash boost (April 2006)£49,000 has been allocated for environmental improvements on the Clarendon and Ellen Street. The money is the result of a planning agreement, known as a section 106 agreement, between Brighton & Hove City Council and Decon Laboratories. Decon had plans for an office and social housing development approved for its current site in Conway Street. Labour Councillor Simon Battle, Deputy Chair of the Clarendon Local Action Team, said: "The funding is compensation for the lack of open space with the development. I am really delighted that this funding will be available in one of the more deprived parts of Hove." The funding is long term and will not become available unless development starts on the site. This may still be some years away. The Council's Environmental Improvements Team will consult local residents
and the Clarendon Local Action Team to develop the improvement plans in
the future. |
