Dog
Fouling team targets Goldsmid Park (April 2006)
St. Anne's Well Gardens and surrounding streets are being targeted as
a dog fouling hotspot by special poo patrols.
After complaints by Labour councillors and residents, the Council is
patrolling regularly in a number of problem areas in the City. The aim
is to catch offenders, give out free dog poo bags and increase visibility
of the animal welfare team.
The Council is working with City Clean to redesign new dog poo bins and
improve signage on them to report dog fouling.
A £50 spot fine has already been issued to one offender as part
of the new initiative. By
law, dog owners must clean up after their dog has fouled in a public place.
This includes parks, grass verges, amenity areas, sports fields, pavements,
roads and beaches. Failure to do this could result in a fine of up to
£1000.
