Goldsmid's Labour Action Team
is formed to campaign on local issues (April 2006 - updated
2007)

Labour selected its candidates for the 2007 local elections
in Goldsmid Ward, Hove over a year before the elections which are on 3
May 2007. We have been out and about every week in the ward trying to
meet as many of Goldsmid's 13,000 residents as possible, to listen to
your concerns and campaigning on grassroots issues. You can email us at
action@goldsmid.com.
Standing will be experienced sitting councillor, Vince Meegan, plus local
residents and community activists Melanie Davis and Alun Jones. .
Melanie Davis wants to get Goldsmid’s needs to
the top of the City agenda. Labour activist for 25 years and a successful
TV producer, she believes that good schools and safe, clean streets are
essential for a healthy community. Passionate about the environment -
local and global - she believes "it is time for us all to act locally
now, to make a difference for the next generation."
Alun Jones has been a Hove resident for 24 years with
his children and grandchild having attended Hove schools. Alun was a Full-Time
Trade Union Officer for 33 years and is currently a Sales Point Assistant
with Southern.
"Local Labour successes such as Goldsmid's parking scheme and new
pedestrian crossings show what we can achieve by working with residents,"
says current councillor Simon Battle. "We will be launching a major
listening exercise to find out what improvements local residents want
to see next in our community."
Councillor Vince Meegan says: "We are witnessing
the revitalisation and regeneration of our new city, on a scale unseen
since the war. We cannot sacrifice our future by failing to respond to
the dynamic demands of the 21st century. It is our task and responsibility
to sieze the opportunities of new homes and jobs whilst safeguarding our
heritage and identity."
