Hove Cycling route gets green light (November 2006)A preferred route has been agreed for a new cycle network linking the seafront to the South Downs. "The route puts the emphasis on encouraging safe cycling in Hove," says Labour's Melanie Davis. The route goes from the seafront cycle path to Hangleton via Hove Park and Hove Station. Council officers are now progressing the design for the scheme from Old Shoreham Road southwards, with implementation to be agreed next year. Funding is coming from the Labour Government as part of its sustainable transport strategy. Special technology is being employed to help cyclists navigate Hove Station - cycle channels will be installed along with other improvements to the footbridge. Update: This work will begin in the next financial year (07/08). Initial work has been carried out including improvements such as the cycle ramp to help cyclists over Hove Station (see on the left of the picture below).
