BHASVIC Field Update new building works
(March 2007)

by Simon Battle

Last summer residents were concerned about plans for a Hockey Pitch on what is known as BHASVIC field (the field is actually part of Cardinal Newman's grounds).

I have now followed this up and can report as follows. Things have gone quiet for a reason. The plans are a long way off from being implemented, I understand the Hockey Club does not yet have the finance in place to proceed.

In the meantime I am pleased to report that it seems that at least residents and councillors have had one of their concerns addressed. A user agreement agreed by all parties will guarantee access to the field by Stanford Junior School. This is great news. We will be keeping an eye on this one to ensure residents are consulted and informed.

Separately, the chair of governors at BHASVIC has informed me that a planning application is imminent from them. I don't have the details but it is along the lines of some new buildings to improve facilities in partnership with other sixth form education providers in the City.

I have been assured that residents have already been notified and that BHASVIC is keen not learn from the Hockey Pitch issue where Cardinal Newman did very little in the way of work with the local community.
