BHASVIC crossing may be funded
by parking income - councillors
(March 2007)
by Vince Meegan
At Environment Committee this week an amendment moved by Labour and
the Lib Dems means that we should see major safety improvements at the
junction of Dyke Road and Old Shoreham Road in the next year, much sooner
than expected.
Parents
and students from BHASVIC have been campaigning for the crossing with
our support as ward councillors.
This is a great outcome for the local community and means the changes
will be introduced quicker than expected in the next financial year.
Consideration is being given to funding the improvements via parking
income, perhaps from the new increased permit charges for polluting 4x4
vehicles.
See our previous BHASVIC crossing campaign
story to see the proposed improvements. Pictured are campaigners including
myself and Celia Barlow MP last year.
