It's Oh So Quiet . . . the Goldsmid Tories (March 2007)

Ssshhhhh…

Have you heard anything from Goldsmid Conservatives in the past year?

Goldsmid is the Tories’ top target in the City but they are nowhere to be seen.

No newsletters.

No surveys.

No campaigns.

If candidates have been active in an area in the months and years before elections, generally those people will go onto become effective councillors in their communities – whatever the party they represent.

If you only hear from political parties in the month or so before the election, then you’ll have absentee councillors after the election.

ssshhhAn absentee candidate will be an absentee councillor.

It is possible the Tories are keeping their heads down in Goldsmid because they voted against a fairer secondary school admissions system which benefits families in our ward.

More likely it is a lack of local activism married to an arrogant assumption that they will win all three Goldsmid seats on 3 May because of Tory strength in national polls.

This quote from one Conservative Councillor says it all:

“If we can’t win in Goldsmid we can’t win anywhere.”

Our view is that most people want good active councillors to represent them and to make a difference to their community. Labour in Goldsmid is proud of its record of activism in our community. We will contine to communicate all year round - on the doorstep and through our website.
