Traffic Calming for Safer Streets (17 December 2004)

Road safety matters for pedestrians and motorists alike. We are working closely with residents in the roads around Highdown Road such as Cissbury Road and Wolstonbury Road to introduce measures to slow down traffic in this area. We recently presented a petition to Council on this matter and spoke in support at Environment Committee on 9 December.

Around Livingstone Road and Shirley Street, we are also campaigning to try to ensure this area benefits from the kind of calming measures which were implemented in Poets Corner in recent years.

On a smaller scale we were successful in getting a new pedestrian island put in in Clarendon Road recently (pictured) and new pedestrian safety measures are due to be installed in Denmark Villas.

Temporary poster signs are to be installed in Montefiore Road to warn drivers to slow down. We asked for the signs to be put up following concerns expressed by residents.
