URGENT! COMMUNAL BINS: PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR VIEWS(September 2007)

By Melanie Davis

Communal BinDid you know that the Conservative Administration of Brighton & Hove City Council is planning to introduce communal bins to over 500 roads without consulting any of the 27,000 households affected before the decision is taken?

For GOLDSMID WARD this means about 30 roads will have the new system and there will be around 70 bins in total.

As your Labour Ward Councillor, I want to hear your views.

Whilst I do believe that communal bins are a solution to refuse problems, they are not a ‘one size fits all’ solution and, if sited inappropriately, can have a negative effect on an area, eg: loss of resident’s parking.

Residents know the geography of their local areas best and can decide on the most appropriate sites for communal bins. I believe that the council should inform and consult with you before decisions are taken on such a big change to your refuse service.

Communal bins replace the usual doorstep / basement refuse collection service.
See Brighton & Hove City Council's website for further information.

This survey will help to advise me of the representations that I will be making on your behalf. I am also walking the streets with council officials to see exactly where the bins are planned to be sited as well as calling for more information for residents.

Please complete print and complete the form below and return it to me as soon as possible. Alternatively email me at melanie.davis@brighton-hove.gov.uk.

I will keep you informed through the website and on the doorstep.
